June 21 is celebrated as International Day of Yoga, a way of reminding each one that the practice is a gift to oneself. This 5000 year old legacy from India, is being practiced globally, not just as a form of exercise, but as a form of discipline. It is not a religion, but a way of life, as it helps create harmony between mankind and nature.

Those who have been regularly doing the activity attest to the calming effects it gives, hence most practitioners have a positive outlook in life, are happy and less stressed. It does not only make the body healthy – since it helps increase muscle strength and tone, and contributes to cardio and circulatory health; it also is good for a healthier mind, as the recent study from UCLA and Australia’s University of Adelaide, where it shows that yoga is good for cognitive health and helps reduce the risk of developing diseases such as Alzheimer’s, as mentioned in this article.
